Evidence of understandingRecorded, sealedWhat your patient understoodNo consent substitute

What your patient understood before treatment — and what they didn't. It supports your consent discussion. It never replaces it.

The Windows app is built but not code-signed yet. Until it is, Windows would warn your staff that it comes from an unknown publisher — so it is not being handed out. Leave an address and you will get one email when it is ready.

A picture of the Candour console: a work queue of patient sessions showing which are in progress, which are ready, and which have completed and been sealed into the record chain — including one where a comprehension gap was found and is still open.

What a record holds

Shown, answered, re-explained.

01

What they were shown

The explainer they read, in the language they chose, at the version approved that day — not the current one.

02

What they answered

Every attempt, not only the last. A concept passed second time is a different record from one passed first.

03

What was explained again

Which risk was missed, what was re-taught, who did it, and whether it landed.

Getting it in front of them

In the chair, or before they arrive.

They read and answer at their own pace, on your device or theirs. You watch it happen.

01 · In the practice

Hand over the tablet

Launch the session, then hand the tablet to the patient — or let them scan the QR code on their own phone. You watch the answers land.

02 · Send by SMS

A link to their mobile

One link, built by the server from a single-use token, valid for 48 hours. The address is never stored — only a redacted hint.

03 · Send by email

A link to their inbox

The same link, the same window, for patients who read before they arrive. Every send is recorded, delivered or not.

Re-taught

Sending a link is refused for sedation, lacking capacity, best-interests and minors on the parental route — those are in the practice, on a device you hand over.

What it tells you

Comprehension is a number now.

Which procedures your patients misunderstand, and whether that is improving.

Solid is what was recorded. Dashed is where the trend goes. The dots are the changes that moved it.

Ask the record.

Every sealed record is structured data, not a PDF. Ask across them.

“The numbness may be permanent”, on simple extraction — asked 214 times, failed at the first attempt 81 times, a 38% first-attempt failure rate against a 12% median across every concept with at least eight asks. It reads like the wording rather than the risk: sessions on the shorter re-teach phrasing pass at 81%, and the same statement inside the implant template fails at 11%.

What Candour does not do

It never blocks treatment, and it never speaks for you.

A gap is flagged and handed to the clinician, never stopped. A comprehension record is not a consent form.

Walk it yourself.

Candour — a record of what your patient understood
